William Harold Newcomb

William Harold "Bill" Newcomb (Newc), 82, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026, in North Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 13, 1943, in Utica, New York, Bill was the son of Harold and Florence Newcomb. He was a proud graduate of Pratt Institute, where he developed his foundation as an artist. An artist by education and an entrepreneur by heart, he carried both creativity and drive throughout his life, building a career that reflected his passion and independence-including founding his own company with his partner and best friend. He was also a published author, another expression of his creativity and perspective on the world. Bill had a lifelong love of sports, cheering faithfully for the New York Mets and Miami Dolphins. He was an enthusiastic fantasy football player and a dedicated league commissioner for many years, bringing people together through friendly competition and camaraderie. He also found joy in collecting-trains, sports cards, and other treasures-always appreciating the stories and memories behind each piece. He also loved to travel, especially to New Hampshire and Maine, where he enjoyed exploring rural and rustic towns. He had a knack for finding hidden, off-the-beaten-path places and never passed up the chance to try a small local restaurant with a story behind it-often turning a simple stop into one of the most memorable parts of the trip. More than anything, Bill will be remembered for his heart. He had a natural gift for humor and loved making others laugh, often with a quick joke or a playful comment. He was kind, generous, and deeply devoted to those he loved. Family was the center of his world, and he took great pride and joy in watching it grow across generations. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bliss Zeller Newcomb. He is survived by his sons, Scott and Sean; his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Jay, Sara, Anna Reese, Sam, Dan, Eric, Alyssa, Nick, Trevor, Emily, and Anneliese; and his five great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. For Bill, the best roads were the ones less traveled-and the best moments were the simple ones shared along the way. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is proudly serving the Newcomb family.
