Vito Saffioti, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at the age of 90. Born on November 23, 1935, in Inwood, New York, Vito lived a life defined by hard work, service, humor, and devotion to his family. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany, where he assisted in the maintenance and construction of atomic weapons during the Cold War era. After completing his military service, Vito settled in Baldwin, New York, where he built a career as a bus driver with the Jamaica Bus Company in New York City. For more than twenty years, he safely transported countless passengers while earning the respect of coworkers and friends through his reliability and strong work ethic. In retirement, Vito relocated to Mooresville, North Carolina, where he remained active for many years making landscaping deliveries. He was known to all as "Mr. Fix-It," a man who could build, repair, or improve just about anything he put his hands on. Whether it was a household project, a broken appliance, or a challenge someone else had given up on, Vito was always ready with a tool in hand and a solution in mind. He also had a special love for gardening and took great pride in maintaining his yard to perfection. Vito loved sharing classic dad jokes, watching golf, and spending time with people. He took great joy in spoiling his wife, and their beloved cats, who always held a special place in his heart. Above all else, Vito will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to his family. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and strength to those around him, and his legacy will live on through the many lives he touched. Vito is survived by his devoted wife of more than thirty years, Suzanne; his children; his grandchildren; and the many family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He will be deeply loved, forever remembered, and greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 25 from 11:30-12:30 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 1:30 PM at the Salisbury National Cemetery.
