Paul Allan Toll of Mooresville, North Carolina was born on December 1, 1954 to Virginia Ann Herring Toll and Carroll Eugene Toll in Clarke County, Iowa. Paul passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025. He was married to Katherine (Kate) Irene Dawkins Toll on April 8, 1978. They celebrated 47 years together. He is preceded in death by both parents. He is survived by his wife Kate, daughters Jessica Corryn Toll and Vanessa Anne Toll Wuesthoff (Nicholas Alan Wuesthoff), grandchildren James Loki Rosenzweig, Brooklynn Paige Wuesthoff and Kinsley Anne Wuesthoff, brother Ralph Eugene Toll (Carol), brothers-in-law John Lee Dawkins (Darlene), and Steven E Dawkins, and sister-in-law Anne Dawkins Barbour (Dan Barbour), as well as nephews and nieces Dave Barbour, Steve Barbour, Patrick Stallbaumer (Julie), Jeremy Dawkins, Justin Dawkins (Jessica), Olivia Dawkins, and India Dawkins. Paul started life as a young boy on a farm in Iowa. The family resettled in 1962 to the city of Overland Park, Kansas where he went to school and enjoyed numerous outdoor activities including camping, fishing, and hunting. He was a Boy and Explorer Scout. He also enjoyed sports and was an avid golfer. Paul graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1973. He furthered his education at Missouri State University and Kansas State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology, specializing in avian biology and graduating in 1978. After college Paul began his career at Bayer Crop Science performing laboratory and field studies on farm pesticides. Later he became part of the quality assurance group. After leaving Bayer, Paul started his own consultancy, Blue River Quality Assurance, continuing in providing quality assurance oversight for numerous clients, including Bayer. Paul would often say, "Family is everything." He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and grandfather. He coached his girls in soccer and softball when they were young and was their biggest fan as they grew up. He travelled to many national and state parks with his wife and grandson as James grew up: Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Everglades, Yellowstone and the Olympic National Park, to name a few. During this time Paul also became an avid nature photographer and enjoyed gardening for his birds, bees and butterflies. In his last years Paul and his wife moved to North Carolina to be with the younger grandchildren, watching their basketball and softball games and going on adventures with them. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22 from 1:00-2:00 PM with a service following at 2:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made in memory of Paul Toll to Operation Wildlife (owl-online.org) or to the National Wildlife Federation (nwf.org).
