Max Doffas Nanney (April 6, 1927 - July 17, 2014) Max Doffas Nanney, 87, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Brian Center in Mooresville. He was born on April 6, 1927, in Forest City, to the late James Curtis and Carrie Coffey Nanney. Mr. Nanney graduated from Cool Springs High School, where he was All-Conference in football, basketball, and baseball. He also graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelorâ€™s Degree and Masterâ€™s Degree in Education. Mr. Nanney moved to Mooresville in 1953, where he taught in the Mooresville School System for 27 years having served 13 years as principal for the Mooresville High School. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was president of the Western NC Athletics Association. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville, where he was a member of the Friendship Sunday School class. Mr. Nanney was an avid Duke Basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth â€œBethâ€ Ligon Hardin Nanney; children, Lynne Nelson and husband, Brian; David Nanney and wife, Carla; Alan Nanney; sister, Carolyn Davis; brother, Dal Nanney; sister-in-law, Ann Hardin; grandchildren, Kristin Drayer and her husband, David; Lauren Nanney; Brittany Nanney; step-grandson, Lawson Burrow; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 21 at First Baptist Church of Mooresville with Rev. Dr. Jerry Cloninger, Rev. Eddie Hicks, Rev. Steve Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. The family wishes to express gratitude to all the doctors and nurses that have cared for Max over the years. In addition, a special thanks to the staff at the Brian Center for their love and care these past few months. Sincerest appreciation to Dr. Mike Campbell for so skillfully treating Max medically for many years. More importantly, the family is grateful for his guidance and friendship. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wednesday Night Suppers, that provides meals to the shut-ins. Please make checks payable to First Baptist Church, 150 S.
