Marjorie Ames McLauthlin DeVoe R. N. A resident of Sherrills Ford NC, passed away September 2, 2017 at the age of 84. Known as Marge to many, and for her radiant auburn hair, blue eyes and loving heart, was born in Cambridge Massachusetts and raised in Lexington Massachusetts.. She attended Boston College and graduated in 1955 with a degree in nursing. She was a Sunday School teacher in her youth with the Methodist church. Marge made the move to Florida in 1955 and continued her career in nursing for 35+ years. In 1969, she married Police Chief Ellis A DeVoe in a televised wedding ceremony. In 1970, they formed the Ames Detective Agency for a short period of time. A resident of 49 years in Boca Raton and Margate Florida before moving to Sherrills Ford NC in 2004. She was an avid piano and organ player as well as dabbling in the drums and loved to play for the patients in the hospitals, for her family, friends and the neighborhood children especially around the holidays. Many times you could find her cruising around town proudly displaying the "Snoopy" license plate on her car. You could often find her at the Mister Donut or the Clock restaurant in Margate and upon moving to NC, the Waffle House in Mooresville engaging in humorous conversations with people or working on crossword puzzles either by herself of with a group. She came equipped with the crossword dictionary. Marge will be sorely missed. She is pre-deceased by her husband Police Chief Ellis A DeVoe; Parents Herbert and Marion McLauthlin; brothers Robert McLauthlin and John McLauthlin; sister Marion Lee McLauthlin Schmitz; nephew Robert J Schmitz; son-in-law David W Todack. She is survived by her loving family: daughter Marcia Leigh DeVoe Todack; grandchildren Jacquelyn N Deschapell and Allison R Andrews Futch and her husband Uriah Futch; her brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Walter McLauthlin and family; sister-in-law Shirley McLauthlin; nieces Karen McLauthlin, Kathy McLauthlin Tarter, Marjorie Anne Schmitz Grice and family and Robin Varga Thomas and family; nephews Robert McLauthlin and Keith Mclauthlin; in-laws in relation Michelle Todack and Brian Todack; former son-in-law Mark E Andrews; and many extended family members. She is also survived by close family friends Dorene O’Donnell and family, Shannon Coates and family, Carmen Rico and family, Sue Mankin, and Brian Jeffries who all considered her a second Mother and grandmother; Care takers and friends Carrie Hickman and Brenda Amos. Memorial service for Marjorie will be held Saturday September 16, 2017 at 1pm at Friendship United Methodist Church 2900 NC-16 Newton, NC 28658.
