Billie Sloan "Bill" Douglas passed away peacefully on July 11, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 26, 1932, in Mt. Ulla, North Carolina, Bill was raised in Mooresville, the community he proudly called home throughout much of his life. On May 24, 1952, he married the love of his life, Nancy "Hank" Douglas. Together they built a life centered on family, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They shared many wonderful years together until Hank's passing. Bill enjoyed a successful career as a salesman with East Coast Metal Distributors, where he earned numerous sales awards throughout his career. He often joked that he had found the perfect profession because it allowed him to do his two favorite things: eat and talk. Anyone who knew Bill understood there was a lot of truth to that. He never met a stranger, and his gift for conversation, outgoing personality, and genuine love of people made him exceptional at what he did. Bill was a devoted member of Fieldstone Church for more than 70 years. His faith remained a guiding force throughout his life. He generously gave both his time and resources to his church and supported numerous charitable organizations, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. To know Bill was to know someone with a quick wit, a feisty spirit, and a personality larger than life. He was wonderfully cantankerous, fiercely independent, and had an unmatched ability to tell the most inappropriate joke at exactly the most inappropriate time, often leaving those around him laughing whether they wanted to or not. His sense of humor was one of the many qualities that made him unforgettable. Above all else, Bill loved his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy "Hank" Douglas; his daughters, Kathy Swartz and Terry Moore; and his grandson, Cory Douglas. He is survived by his son, Billie Douglas Jr. and his wife, Becky; his grandchildren, Tracy Landreth, Kelly Miller, Matthew Miller and his wife, and Lindsey Douglas; five great-grandchildren; along with many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his stories, laughter, and unmistakable personality. Bill's legacy is one of faith, hard work, generosity, humor, and unwavering love for his family. His quick wit, spirited nature, and ability to make friends wherever he went will be deeply missed, but the countless stories, laughter, and memories he leaves behind will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved him. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 23 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 24 at Fieldstone Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Carrie Finch-Barriss officiating. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fieldstone Presbyterian Church, 804 Fieldstone Road, Mooresville, NC 28115.
