Benton Ross Stacy, who departed this life on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the age of 83. He was born on March 12, 1943, in Sparta, Tennessee, and spent many years building a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories in Mooresville, North Carolina. Benton graduated from Mentor High School in Mentor, Ohio, and pursued further studies at Cleveland State College. After starting several businesses of his own, his professional journey ended in a fulfilling career as the DOT Safety and Service Director for the City of Charlotte for twenty five years. Benton also started Safety Trainer, a program that taught safety to municipalities all over the Carolinas, saving an untold number of lives. But Benton was most proud of the literacy program he started to help people with literacy issues pass DMV requirements to work for the city. Helping hundreds to not only learn to read and write but employment while they learned. Benton devoted himself to the well being of his and many other communities. The ripples of his life's work can still be felt today. An active member of Prospect Presbyterian Church in Mooresville, Benton found joy and solace in his faith and friendships that were made. Above all, Benton was a devoted family man. He cherished the moments spent with his sons Michael, Roger, Chris, and his daughter Linda. He was a proud Tennessean and loved family reunions in White County, Tennessee. He was a lifelong horseman, a love he shared with his father. He loved fishing trips, golfing, and camping adventures in the mountains or anywhere in Tennessee. These were the highlights of his exuberant life. He took pride in keeping his yard immaculate, a reflection of his dedication to nurturing the things he loved. Benton had an unparalleled passion for life, with many interests that included American history, bluegrass music, Tai Chi, caring for his beloved cats, and cheering for his favorite teams, the Atlanta Braves and of course the Tennessee Volunteers. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Judith "Judy" Minthorn Stacy; son, Mark J. Stacy; brothers, Sidney Stacy, Lester Q. "Dick" Stacy, Kewen Stacy; sisters, Darrell Guttschalk and Reba Weaver; and grandsons, Justin Scott Ogle and Scott Albert Miller. He is survived by his children, Roger Stacy (Charlotte), Linda Miller, Michael "Mike Stacy (Beth), Chris Stacy (Rebecca); grandchildren, Megan, Amanda, Katie, Benjamin, Ashley, Aaron, Madeline, Nicolas, Hagan; great grandchildren, Jackson, Cameron, Viviana, Oscar, Nora, Zane, Lilian, Fiona, Weston, Reagan, Maisie, Alana, Noah, and Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 11 from 1:00-2:00 PM with a service following at 2:00 PM at Prospect Presbyterian Church with Rev. Will Gipe officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
