After many years of declining health, Barbara Brown Newton, 87, passed away on July 4, 2026. Even in the advanced stages of her dementia, Barbara remained very pleasant, easy to care for and always had a song in her heart. Barbara was born July 31, 1938 in Mooresville to Charles Ross Brown and Sara Lippard Brown. She graduated from Mooresville Senior High School and remained a life-long Mooresville resident. After high school, she attended Women's College of Greensboro and married Herman Newton in 1957. They were married for 65 years until his death in 2022. Barbara spent her early working years in secretarial positions, including Mooresville Junior High and later retired as the personnel manager of Aeroquip Corporation (formerly LOF Plastics). Barbara enjoyed yard work, sewing, playing the piano, fishing, traveling and other outdoor activities. She was also known for her talents in the kitchen, especially her iced pound cakes and pulled mints. She and Herman had many adventures together traveling the US, cruising the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands and traveling as far away as Australia. Family gatherings were especially meaningful to her, and she took pride in preparing big meals for everyone. Barbara maintained a close friendship with a group of girlfriends from her school days that she referred to as her Ya-Ya's. Even in her declining health, she looked forward to their occasional lunch dates. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Susan White, brother-in-law Tom Deal and nephew Wes White. She is survived by her children Kevin Newton (Tina), Kelly Newton, Kayren Williamson, Korey Newton (Kristen); her grandchildren Callie Newton, Cole Newton (Claire), Sara Bonner (James), Hannah Mitchell, Justin Newton, Savannah Newton and Kelsey Newton; sister Becky Deal; nephew Thomas Deal, niece Sara Deal (Kevin Taylor) and nephew Jacob White (Somer) and their children. The family will receive friends on Saturday July 11, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 AM with a service following at 11:00 AM at Broad Street Church, 355 S Broad Street, Mooresville, NC 28115 with Rev. Jeremy Stouffer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Broad Street Church or the charity of your choice.
