Alice Younts

Alice Younts, age 97, a treasured wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at The Pines in Davidson where she spent the last years of her life in loving care. She was born in High Point, NC. She was preceded in death by parents, Robert T. and Mary Alice Cottam, her brother, Robert "Bob" Cottam Jr. and her beloved husband of 58 years, William "Bill" Younts, Jr. Alice graduated from Randolph College with a degree in Chemistry which was extraordinary for those times. She worked in the sciences at various laboratories until her marriage to Bill in 1953. She was a devoted Christian and in active service through church circles and altar guilds. She was a true patriot and took great pride in Bill's service during WWII in Europe. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and nurturing her children and grandchildren. Alice loved her place at Lake Norman. She always felt it was a stunning creation by God and a source of her Spiritual Renewal. She worked to clear the rough land and even designed the house by sketching her idea onto a grocery bag. For over 60 years, she raised vegetable gardens as she had been taught by her grandfather Albert Tate. She planted day lilies of every color, shape and size which were admired by all who came to visit. She waterskied on her 65th birthday. She was strong willed and resilient. She put others first, and was always cheerful with a smile on her face. She was a loyal member of Tea and Topics book club in Salisbury, meeting every third Thursday for remarkably over 65 years. Alice loved to cook. She was famous for her prune cake and pimento cheese which was fought over and loved by all. She always made sure guests were given a good meal and made to feel welcome. She and Bill loved to travel in their RV after his retirement. She would say it was the best years of her marriage and the creation of wonderful memories with her grandchildren. She took pride in the Friendship force and being an ambassador of the US to Ecuador, England, France and Russia. Alice strived to make a difference, to show love and caring for others as Christ taught us. She is survived by three children, Marjorie Younts Klinge, of Wilmington, William Ernest Younts III, of Davidson, and John Robert Younts and wife Dena of Mooresville. Grandchildren left to cherish her memory are Mary Allison Klinge, Christian Elizabeth Younts (husband Paul), William Ernest Younts IV (wife Stephanie), Alisha Kaye Johnson (husband Ted), and Dr. Robert Alexander Younts (wife Sarah). She treasured her 5 great-grandchildren. Emmaline and Brooke Younts, Harper and Palmer Johnson and Sophie Younts. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am, on October 11th, in the Original Chapel of Williamson's Chapel UMC located at 575 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC 28117. To be followed by a reception at Alice's Lake House at 129 Dearborn Lane, Mooresville, NC.
