Ruby Colene Small

January 5, 1939 - March 2, 2022

Colene Messick Small, 83, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away on March 2, 2022. She was born on January 5, 1939 in Statesville, NC to the late Otis and Florence Pippin Messick. First and foremost, Colene loved God and her church. She was an active member of Missionary Methodist Church and served as choir director. She read her bible and enjoyed a "Tootsie Pop" every night. She loved her family and her extended family. She was Mama Colene to many people and would help anyone she could. She treasured all her grandchildren especially. Colene also enjoyed traveling to the beach when she could and was an avid reader. She was deeply loved by her family and will be greatly missed. In addition to her parents, Colene was preceded in death by her husband, James Small; brother, Melvin Messick and sister, JoAnn Shumake She is survived by her children, Ronnie Small (Laurie), Donnie Small (Terri Smith), Steve Small (Selena), Tim Small (Tammy), Crystal Small Rambo (Justin); 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brother Leroy Messick; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friend, Pat Clubb. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 6:00-8:00pm at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville, NC. A funeral service will held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at Mooresville Missionary Methodist Church, 311 Clover St., Mooresville, NC with Pastor Randall Macon officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Missionary Methodist Church, 311 Clover St, Mooresville, NC 28115.
