Ronald Arthur Wenzel ("Ron") of Davidson, NC and formerly of Mooresville NC, passed away peacefully at home May 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 20, 1942, in Crawfordsville IN, to Arthur Edward and Laura Van Paris Wenzel. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Swanson Wenzel and his sister Marilyn Hatch. Ron was a graduate of Central High School in South Bend, Indiana, where he met his wife. He then graduated from Purdue University with distinction in Mechanical Engineering. He had a successful forty-year career in engineering and plant management. He loved his work so much that he continued to seek a plant manager position until his last days! Ron was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Mooresville, NC. He was a lifelong avid golfer with a scratch handicap. Some of his fondest childhood memories were fishing with his dad and cousins. He will forever be remembered for the funny jokes and stories he shared. Above all else, Ron treasured his family and the many memories made together, especially trips to the beach. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He leaves a lasting legacy to be cherished by his survivors including his children, Ronald Arthur Wenzel Jr. (Betsy) of Cornelius NC, Robin Wenzel Blaney of Mooresville NC; grandchildren, Laura Wenzel, Jacob Wenzel (Megan), Evan Wenzel, Alice Wenzel, John Blaney, Erin Blaney, Rosa Somerville (Zach); great-grandchildren, Henry Wenzel, Savannah Somerville, Harper Somerville, and Samantha Somerville; sister Lorraine Andrysiak (Jim); physical therapist and dear friend Kelly Schrader; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Services include a graveside service at Glenwood Memorial Park (273 Glenwood Drive, Mooresville, NC) on Friday May 22, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception of family and friends at The Pines at Davidson (400 Avinger Lane, Davidson NC 28036) at 2:00 p.m. in The Davidson Room. Please join us as you are able. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to all staff at the Pines at Davidson where he resided for 7½ years, and Hospice (Via Health Partners), for their compassionate and supportive care.
