Marion Jay Barnes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 73 on January 23, 2026, at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, NC. Born on May 10, 1952, in Boone, NC, Marion was the cherished son of the late Marion John Wesley Barnes and Retta Mae Greer Barnes. Marion is survived by his loving wife, Sabrina Witherspoon Barnes, who stood by his side through life's many journeys. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his children-Justin Barnes (Rachael), Heather Sevilla, Joshua Davis (Julie), Daniel Davis (Kelly), and Thomas Davis. His heart will forever be remembered by his grandchildren-Kaleb and Elijah Sevilla; Sunday, Josiah, and Fiona Barnes; Kaleb and Hannah France; Noah and Gracen Davis; and Jakob and Kaylee Davis; and Maverick Acevedo. Marion also shared precious moments with his sisters, Frances Dotson (David), Linda Evans, and Kaye Overcash, along with his brother-in-law, RD Wilcox. He was preceded in death by cherished grandchildren, Haddi and Angel baby Davis and Baby Barnes; a sister, Anne Wilcox; and a brother-in-law, Bob Evans. Marion's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but the love he shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched. Marion spent over 30 years as a dedicated heavy equipment operator for Phifer I Johnson Bulldozing, where his hard work and commitment were admired by many. He enjoyed visits from his children and grandchildren. He took pride in keeping his community clean and providing a place for everyone to enjoy. He was the honorary mayor of the Mill Hill which he spent many hours beautifying the community from his wheelchair. Over the years he enjoyed riding motorcycles and hanging out with friends. His greatest mission was to spread the love and message of Jesus to everyone he met. A memorial service will be held at Whitman Park Baptist Church in Mooresville on January 31st at 11 am with Rev. Jesse Clubb and Jacob Davis officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service to celebrate Marion's life and the memories they hold dear.
