Joyce Elaine Stutts

May 23, 1945 - January 23, 2022

Joyce Elaine Thompson Stutts, 76, of Terrell, NC, passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022, after a long period of declining health due to Alzheimer Disease. She was born on May 23, 1945 in Iredell County to the late David Clate Thompson, Jr. and Kate Clodfelter Thompson. Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, nana and friend. She enjoyed gardening, reading, her church and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was an active member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church. She taught Children's Sunday school for many years, sang in the choir and served many leadership roles. She enjoyed working with children and spent many years working as a teacher assistant at Sherrills Ford Elementary School. After leaving the school she worked for a number of years at Cotton Ketchie Landmark Gallery in Mooresville. She is survived by her loving husband, Clay Stutts: daughters, Greta Gentle (Keith) of Terrell, NC, Kim Roberts (Mike) of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Meggie Gentle Benner (Jarret) of Conover, NC, Garrison Roberts of Wilmington, NC, Griffin Gentle of Terrell,NC, Trey Roberts of Greenville, NC, and Hayden Roberts of Chesapeake, VA; siblings, Beth Cassidy, Steve Thompson (Mary), Kay Woolledge (Billy) and Sherri Sloop (Doug). A memorial service will be held at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, Terrell, NC on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 2:00 PM with visitation to follow. Dr. Michael Rich and Dr. Bob Kerr will officiate.
