John E. Torpey, 85, of Mooresville, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. He was born on December 4, 1940 in Haverstraw, New York, to the late Thomas and Mary Tyrnell Torpey. A proud 1958 graduate of Haverstraw High School, John continued his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, where he received his bachelor's degree in 1962. Throughout his life, John lived in various places, including Massachusetts and North Carolina, where he became a resident of Mooresville. Mr. Torpey had a successful career in banking, serving as a Vice President at both Provident Savings and Loan and U.S. Alliance Credit Union. A dedicated professional, John also contributed his time and effort as a member of the Haverstraw Volunteer Ambulance Corps, showcasing his commitment to his community. John was known for his passion for photography, capturing beautiful moments of his family and the landscapes he cherished. An avid New York Yankees fan, he enjoyed nothing more than cheering for his team, often while enjoying his daily Chick-fil-A meals. Traveling alongside his beloved wife and spending quality time with his family, brought him immense joy. He was also a devoted dog lover, and his furry friends held a special place in his heart. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, MaryAnn; daughter, Susan Arroyo; and brothers, Joseph F. Torpey and Thomas W. Torpey. He is survived by his loving children, Caren Andersen, Thomas Eschenbacher, Diane Bryan (Rob); brothers, William T. Torpey (Lisa), James M. Torpey (Joann); son-in-law, Paul Arroyo; sister-in-law, Lenore Torpey; grandchildren, Joshua Weintraub (Nancy), Caitlynn Andersen, Zachary DeFeciani, Lena DeFeciani, Carl Andersen, Jr., Michael Bryan, Sean DeFeciani; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his beloved K-9 companion, Bailey. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Monday, August 17 from 5:00-7:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to ASPCA, https://www.aspca.org.
