Donald G. Mayer of Mooresville, North Carolina, died on August 12, at age 78. Don was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1942, to James and Julia Wagner Mayer. He graduated from Bogan High School. In 1965, he joined the Air Force, serving for four years, including one year in Korea, before his honorable discharge in 1969. He graduated from St. Joseph's College in Calumet City, Indiana with a degree in business administration, and he later earned a degree in transportation from the College of Advanced Traffic. His career included 12 years as a transportation analyst for Ford Motor Company and 24 years as traffic manager for Ingersoll-Rand in Davidson, North Carolina. He married Barbara Amann in 1971 at Sacred Heart Parish in Palos Hills, Illinois, and in 1982, they relocated to Mooresville. Don and Barbara were service-oriented, compassionate people. Don was active in several organizations, including the Knights of Columbus and The Men of St. Therese at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville, the Transportation Education Association, The Charlotte Traffic Club and The Golden Boys. He was an accomplished photographer, and he worked at the soup kitchen and the Knights of Columbus pancake breakfasts. He enjoyed golf and horseback riding. He was predeceased by his mothers, Julia Helen Wagner Mayer and Mary Loretta Mills Mayer, his father, James H. Mayer, and brothers, Thomas and William Mayer. He is survived by brothers, James Michael Mayer and Michael J. Mayer and sisters, Kathleen Sparks, Margaret Lilly and Jeanne G. Powers; nieces and nephews, as well as many good friends.
