William MacRae "Mac" Howard Sr., 91 of High Point and formerly of Mooresville and North Wilkesboro, passed peacefully to his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Hospice Home at High Point. Born in Mooresville on December 31st, 1926, he was the son of Jay Flake Howard Sr. and Arlean Thompson Howard. On February 3, 1946, he married Sara "Tootsie" Davis of Mooresville and they were blessed with 72 years together. The couple had three children, Susan, Bill and David. Mac retired from Burlington Industries in 1990 as the Plant Engineer. He was a devoted husband and father and was the "best Papaw ever" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed tinkering in his basement where he could fix anything, watching his birds, going to the beach, and worshiping and serving his Lord and Savior at his beloved Millers Creek United Methodist Church. Mr. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Flake Sr. and Arlean Thompson Howard and sisters, Margaret Spencer and Helen Sloop. He is survived by his wife, Sara "Tootsie" Davis Howard; his three children, Susan and husband, Mickey of High Point, Bill and wife, Glenda of Mooresville, David and wife, Catherine of Atlanta, GA.; five grandchildren, Mike Fox (Kristi) of Blowing Rock; Shannon Hancock (Tod) of Kernersville; Leigh Ann Critcher (Shannon) of Millers Creek; Sherri Stabel (Jason) of Mooresville and Alexandra Howard of Atlanta, GA; and ten great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Fox; Tyler and Austin Hancock; Britt and Brandon Tart; Braxton, Bethany, Sydni and Josiah Critcher; and Sammy Stabel. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Wright of Charlotte and brothers, Marshall (Helen) and Jay F. Jr. (Gerry) Howard of Mooresville. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Mac’s special caregivers, Shirley Covington, Cozetta "Coco" Parker, and Andrea "Kneava" Walker as well as the wonderful staff at the Hospice Home at High Point where he was treated with wonderful care, respect and compassion. Funeral services for Mr. Howard will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 5th at Triplett United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Ervin and Rev. Dr. Richard Auten officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
