Wesley M. Borland, 85, of Cornelius, passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at the Serenity House in Huntersville. Born November 3, 1930, in Reidsville, NC, he was the son of the late James Banister Borland and Bertha Rae Pierce Borland. As Wes reflected on his life, all he could say was "What a joy! What a life! I’m in love!" Wes found joy in almost everything and everyone in his life. He took great delight in meeting people and connecting with friends. He was easy going, kind and fun to be with whether on the golf course, fishing or grilling. He loved dancing and singing and having a good time. Vegetable gardening was high on his list of pleasures, and he delighted in sharing the bounty. Wes lived a very full life beginning with his childhood in Reidsville. A graduate from Reidsville High, he received a football scholarship from Wake Forest. This was one of the major highlights of his life and he remained an avid football fan. He worked for 20 years with Burlington Industries in the transportation division. He first moved to Mooresville with Reeves Brothers and then spent his later career in transportation with Ingersoll Rand, Family Dollar and Parkdale Mills. Macular degeneration took his vision and cut short his career, but not his love for life. Anyone who knew Wes is aware of his love for God and his family. While living in Mooresville, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Jacqueline (Jackie) Neef Borland; three daughters, Blair Plevel and husband, Danny, Benay Benelli and husband Brandon, Beth Markofski and husband Steve; four grandchildren, Jonathan Plevel, Kyle and Max Markofski and Isabella Benelli as well as extended family and friends. A memorial service with reception following will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 5 in the chapel at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Hospice and Serenity House for the love, care and support during Wes’ illness.
