Walter Glenn Isenhour, 87, of Mooresville, NC died Saturday, May 13th, in La Grange, KY after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. He leaves behind his daughter Glenda Isenhour of La Grange, KY; sons Stephen (Peggy) of Advance, and Gary Isenhour of Kernersville NC; along with seven grandchildren (Tyler, Josh, Zachary, Caroline, Lauren, Lindsay, Dustin); four great-grandchildren (Madeline, Sophia, Hunter, Carter); and brother, Melvin Isenhour. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Leila Haithcock Isenhour; son Mark Isenhour; parents Nellie Isenhour Waddell and Carl Isenhour; and siblings Margie, Jack, and Jerry. Anyone who met Glenn knew right away he was one of a kind. He loved to sing and entertain everyone with his stories. He was born in China Grove and was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. He was always most content in the woods or in his favorite tree stand. He traveled to Ukraine on a mission trip, went big game hunting "out west", and sang on stage at the Grand Ole Opry (it was empty except for his tour group and an open mic - just the encouragement he needed). He fulfilled a life-long dream just two years ago when he cruised to Alaska. He saw much of America from the cab of his 18-wheeler and was formally recognized for being accident-free for all of his nearly 30 years as a Roadway truck driver. After retirement he went back to the open road and moved cars for auction and for sale at a Lake Norman car dealership. He never met a stranger and knew all the neighbors wherever he lived. He knew how to grow anything and spent as many daylight hours as possible in his yard and garden. Glenn always lived life to the fullest. In November he went hunting with his grandson just days before his cancer diagnosis and Saturday he went outside to feel the sun on his face just hours before his death. He died fulfilling his favorite Bible verse: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." (2 Timothy 4:7)Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, May 18 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00-3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Berea Baptist Church, 1015 River Hwy, Mooresville, NC 28117.
