JESUS LOVES YOU! God is good; God is faithful; and God loves you beyond what you can imagine. If you had the privilege of knowing Vera, loving Vera, or even just running into her at the grocery store, you were met with such a sweet declaration of these truths. "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)". In the early hours of Tuesday, January 9, 2024, Vera stepped into her heavenly home as she met Jesus face to face. To know Vera was to know the love of Jesus. To be loved by Vera was to feel and understand the grace and love of God. Vera walked through her life on Earth with faith always trusting in God's goodness and promises, and this resulted in a life full of HIS joy and peace. We know that she leapt into eternity with the greatest excitement imaginable as she had lived her entire life to share Jesus with others! She is now home. Vera was born to the late C.T. Humphrey and Evelyn Amick Humphrey of Mooresville, North Carolina on February 6th 1940. She was a graduate of Mooresville High School, Class of 1958 where she played on the women's basketball team. She was employed at Sewing Circle Fabric Store until its closing and then began her career in dietary at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where she worked until her retirement. Vera was a faithful member of Saint Mark's Lutheran Church. There she served as a Sunday School teacher in the 3 year old class, with her sister Sylvia and best friend Alice, for 40 years. She was a member of the choir and a member of the Tuesday Night Circle. Vera loved to sing, play the piano, and give to others. She found her joy in blessing other people and always gave God the glory! In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Robert (Bobby) T. Humphrey and Donald R. Humphrey; nephew, Johnny Johnson and her special dog, Jane. She is survived by her beloved sister, Sylvia Elaine Johnson; best friends, Alice Lee and Liz Whitlow; sister-in-law, Dianne Humphrey; niece, Gina Moore and husband Charles; niece, Karen Stiles and husband Graham; nephew, Tim Johnson and wife Dianne; great nephew, Timothy Daniel Johnson and wife Vivian; great niece, Kensley Blalock and husband Isaac; great niece, Amy Moore and special friend, Ty Houser; great niece, Marzya Habibi; great niece, Lily Stiles; great niece, Olivia Stiles; great nephew, Evan Johnson; great nephew, Eric Johnson; great great niece, Arianna Johnson; great great nephew, Chase Johnson; great great niece, Lucy Noel Blalock; special family friend, Pam Phipps; and world's best doctor, Steve Ferguson. Let us rejoice together in the truth of John 14:1-3 (ESV), which says, "Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also." Vera is one of the greatest missionaries to ever live, and she would want nothing more than for you to hear the Gospel message through this obituary, as she made it her life's mission to share the Good News through every conversation and venture. Though this life is only temporary, how JOYOUS it is that our eternal home is Heaven with our Father when we know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior! Though we grieve in missing Vera here on Earth, we rejoice because she is finally home! She now resides in a place prepared for her by Jesus Himself, and we are sure that in her mansion with many rooms, her heavenly home has a bay window, is filled with beautiful purple and red decorations, an all-you-can-eat spaghetti, shrimp, and onion ring buffet, and a choir that's ready to sing praises with her at a moment's notice! Thank God for Vera, and Thank God for Jesus. He loves YOU! A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, January 21 at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service in the Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
