Theresa (Terri) DiNota Sapanaro of Mooresville passed away on December 8, 2015, from stroke complications. She was born November 3, 1927, to parents Livio and Margaret DiNota in Mt. Vernon, New York. She married her late husband Robert (Bob) Thomas Sapanaro in 1947, enjoying many years of happiness until his death in 1996. She is survived by her daughter, Judy, her sister, Margaret DiGiorgio (Bob), daughters-in-law Debra Sapanaro and Marjorie Sapanaro, her grandchildren, Marissa, Michelle, and Matthew Sapanaro, and her goddaughter Jean Kozel of Florida. Her sons Michael and Robert Sapanaro and her brother Alexander DiNota also preceded her in death. She is also survived by her two "girls," Debbie Page (Martin) and Kaylynne Murn (Mark Morton), and her "bonus" grandchildren. Terri and her "girls" enjoyed their trips to the beach and the Biltmore House and their annual visits to the Southern Christmas show. Whether at cookouts, craft days, Christmas cookie baking, or just movies and shopping, Terri and her "girls" always shared many laughs and hugs together. Terri was a graphic artist and writer, interviewing many celebrities in her magazine career. She loved New York City and her beloved Long Island, spending much of her adult years in the Massapequa, New York area before moving to North Carolina with Bob after retirement. Terri had a eye for beauty and created many works of art with her hands and her crochet and knitting needles. She found beauty in the architecture of Biltmore House as well as a simple toilet paper roll, which she fashioned into beautiful flowers that she turned into window hangings. She shared her knowledge of knitting and crochet by teaching classes at the Mooresville Senior Citizens Center. She embraced her new home in the South, discovering that shrimp and grits were actually good together! She loved her beautiful view of Lake Norman and delighted in her time at the beach, even hopping on a jet ski in her late 70s behind a 15-year-old and whooping with delight as they crashed along the sound at Nags Head. She loved being one of the "kids" playing games and swimming in the salty water. She was active in several senior groups in Mooresville, and she entertained everyone portraying a Southern belle with her "southern" Long Island accent with her senior theatre performance group. She was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church and also attended services at Rocky Mount Methodist Church over the years, as well as enjoying the plays, concerts, Keenagers seniors group, and various activities at Rocky Mount. A memorial service for Mrs. Sapanaro will be held at 2PM on December 12th, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home with Reverend Jamie Hamrick officiating. Her family and friends will visit with attendees after the service. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the Sapanaro family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
