Sybil Barnhardt Campbell passed away on March 9, 2018, after a lengthy illness, faced with grace and courage. She was born on January 9, 1932, in Salisbury, NC. She was the daughter of the late Thomas Ray Barnhardt and Della Weddington Barnhardt. She graduated from Granite Quarry High School in 1950. Sybil was married to Herbert L. Campbell (Hub) in Miami, FL in 1954. In 1956, Hub was transferred to Greensboro, NC. They lived in Greensboro for 45 years and Sybil worked at Sears Mail Order Plant (and Sears Tool Repair Shop) on Lawndale Drive for over 30 years. During this time, Sybil formed many long lasting friendships with co-workers and neighbors. She greatly enjoyed being outdoors and was happiest when doing things with Hub, such as tinkering with odd jobs, working in their beautiful yard and visiting their home at Oak Island. Their favorite pastimes included boating and fishing and the occasional sunset cruise to dine on hot dogs at the local marina. In 1998, they moved to Lake Norman, which had been her dream for years. Those were some of the best years of Sybil’s life. They were members of Rehobeth United Methodist Church in Terrell. In addition to her parents, Sybil is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hub who passed away in 2007, four brothers and two sisters. She is survived by sons, Robert L. Campbell and wife, Lynn of High Point and Jeff L. Campbell and wife, Jodie and granddaughter, Chelsea all of Greensboro. Services for Sybil will be held on Wednesday, March 14 at 2:00 Pm at South River United Methodist Church, Woodleaf, with Rev. A. J. Moore and Rev. Dr. Robert Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will follow the burial. We are greatly appreciative of the staff at the Stratford over the past four years of her residency there and especially, her aide and friend, Annie Kitching. We would also like to thank those at Camden Place, especially her daytime CNA, Starr, as well as Hospice & Palliative Care of Greensboro, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, NC 28215 or Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
