Steven "Steve" Douglas Russell, 60, of Kannapolis and formerly of Mooresville NC, was set free from his earthly pain, and went home to be with the Lord Wednesday July 13th, 2022. He was born May 18th, 1962. He loved history and taught at Gaston College and Covenant Classical School early in his career and later worked as a consultant for ETA Global for many years, and spent much of his free time reading and writing about church history. Steve completed his undergraduate degree from Pfeiffer University in US History and Computer Science. He then received his Master's degree from UNC Charlotte in US History. All who knew him knew his love for the Lord and his desire to further the Kingdom. Steve was always willing and ready to talk about the bible, history, economics, and political science. He was an avid Formula1 fan and a member of Sports Car Club of America. Steve loved AutoCross, white water rafting, and adventure driving especially in the mountains. His generosity and compassion for helping those in need was felt throughout every area of his life. He loved music, laughing loudly, telling stories, and sitting around the fire. Steve is survived by his wife of 27 years Tonia Flynt Russell; his daughter Elizabeth (Marcus) of Landis; his son Joseph (Leah) of Kannapolis; and his "little buddy" (grandson) Ryder; his parents Horace Douglas "Doug" and Patricia "Pat" Ann Russell of Concord; his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Scott Hester; his niece Lauren Walker (Marshall) and their children Patterson and Hays; his nephews Scott Hester (Jessica) and Lee Hester (Kelly); and his aunt and uncle Joan and Dean Earle; and many cousins, relatives, and close friends. Per Steve's request the family will have a private Home Coming Service with just family. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to everyone who has reached out with condolences and offered a helping hand, and also to all the hospice nurses and all the medical staff who have cared for Steve over the years.
