Robert James "RJ" Manley gained his angel wings on September 20th, 2015. He passed peacefully in the arms of his mother and father. His short life was spent surrounded by family and friends that RJ had touched in some small way throughout his short, yet very memorable life. RJ’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him and though he never spoke a word, his voice and thoughts could always be heard. Although RJ’s condition made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With his courage he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. With RJ’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his squeaky little cry, he will forever remain in our hearts. It has been a privilege to be his parents. We are so thankful RJ met his brothers so they can hold dear the memory of RJ’s gentle spirit. RJ leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life. RJ’s love extends to his many wonderful staff in the nursery at PREBYTERIAN MEDICAL CENTER. There is a special place in our hearts for our STAFF Of CAREVIVERS, because of THEIR continual dedication, love and support, RJ was able to survive some of his toughest medical challenges. All of these special people, too numerous to mention, provided RJ with love and dignity in his life and also in his death. RJ is survived by his loving parents, Brian Manley and Kahle Giesen of Mooresville, NC; brother: Logan Manley of Mooresville, NC and brother: Tim Giesen, niece Aubrey Giesen-Sanders of Mocksville, NC; paternal grandparent Jim Manley of Elbridge, NY; maternal grandmother Susan Giesen of Ontonagon, MI; uncle Jeff Manley and Tiffany of Winter, OH, Aunt Krista Cutler and Christian of Charlotte, NC, Aunt Sue Chambers and Cory of MD, Uncle Rob Giesen and Renee of Bloomington, MN, Uncle Chris Giesen and Paula of New Prague, MN Uncle Bruce Giesen and Jade of Eagan, MN, Aunt Mary Gregor and Kraig of Montgomery, MN, Uncle Dan Giesen and Nicole of Belle Plaine, MN; and cousins Emily, Zac, Gavin, and Zoey, Lauren, Nicole (and Zack), Gabby, Frank, Olivia, Owen, Carter, Marcus (and Kelsie), Megan, Sam, Marcus, Cecelia, Merrik, Caroline, Roman, Eleanor, and many more great aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother Mary Anne Manley and paternal Grandfather Robert Giesen. The family will receive friends on Tuesday September 22, 2015, from 6-8 pm at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, NC. There will be a memorial service held on Wednesday September 23, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A reception will be held following the memorial service in the Heritage House.
