Richard Charles Nelson, 95, of Mooresville, passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019. He was born in Morristown, NJ, on October 9, 1923 to the late Delizene and Dorothy L. Nelson. Dick is survived by his 2nd wife, Dorothy Green Nelson, married 1970; his son, Richard Charles Nelson, Jr. (Chuck) and wife, Mary Ann, of Flemington, NJ; grandchildren, Sean Nelson and wife, Amanda, Casey Nelson Scandura and husband, Matthew; two great grandchildren, Emma and Jack all of Bridgewater, NJ; grandson, Ryan Nelson of Hoboken, NJ; daughter, Kathi Nelson Saras and husband, Harry; grandchildren, Alina, Mary, Luke, Makrina, Martha, Yoti, Elisabeth of White Haven, PA and Hawaii; Dot’s children, Douglas, Joyce, Jeffrey Arditti and wife, Elizabeth; and Dot’s grandchildren, Ethan, Alanis, Alex, Will, Austin, and Josh. At ages 13-18 Dick enjoyed N.J. American Legion Bugle & Drum Corp. and N.J. State Guard Cavalry Squadron. Dick entered Rutgers University, New Brunswick, N.J. after 1 year in ROTC Signal Corp. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy pre-flight school in 1943 at UNC Chapel Hill, N.C. then Pensacola, FL. While waiting assignment, WWII ended. He returned to Rutgers University and graduated in January 1949 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. For the next 31 years, Dick worked as a Sales Rep. in road building material and underground utilities, rising to Sales Manager and finally Vice President of Sales. Dick has also been an avid sports fan and had tickets to all N.Y. Giants football games. Dick and his beloved wife Dorothy moved to Largo, Florida in 1979 from Hillsborough, N.J. They were a husband and wife team as Broker Salesman Realtors for the 24 years they lived there, and were well known in Pinellas County, Florida. Dick enjoyed sailing, the beach, and golf; even had a hole in one! They retired and moved to Mooresville, NC in 2003 to be closer to family. Dick and Dot have been active members of First Presbyterian Church of Mooresville since 2007, where Dick served as a Deacon and on committees, as has Dot who also was an Elder. Always active in their church, Dick having been an Elder in a Florida church, they consider FPC their beloved home. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 2 at the Salisbury National Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 3 at First Presbyterian Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Dr. David Rockness officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 249 W.
