Nellie Olehowski McNally, 97, of Salisbury, NC went to be with the Lord Saturday, August 9, 2025, just shy of her 98th birthday. She was born August 12, 1927, in Lewiston, ME, the daughter of the late John and Paulina Olehowski. She was 3rd from the youngest and the last survivor of their 14 children. Her family lived a simple life on a small farm, which included growing their own apples and other produce. Nellie shared many wonderful memories of her early life in Lewiston and continued to love apples all of her days! She had a big change when she married the love of her life, James McNally, Jr., and moved to Brooklyn, NY and later Queens, NY until moving to Charlotte, NC in 1966. Salisbury became their home in 2005. During her time in Charlotte, Nellie worked as a pre-school teacher for many years. She loved children and had a special gift of caring for them. Later in life, her love of cooking and serving others brought her to work in the snack shop at Plantation Estates for several years prior to retirement. Nellie was well-loved and the heart of our family. She will be forever remembered as a loving, caring, and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her strong Christian faith in God was an example to our family and all who knew her. She was such a wonderful role model, and her legacy of love will live on through us all. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, James McNally, Jr. and sons-in-law Mark Woodburn and Ronald Ostrowski. She is survived by her 3 children - Cheryl Woodburn, Steven McNally (Karen), and Linda McNally; 4 grandchildren - Tara Gales (Seth), Nathan Woodburn (Amanda), Colleen Helton (Ted), and Michael McNally (Oriana Morgan); and 10 great-grandchildren - Kenzie Gales; Addy, Lena, and Lilly Woodburn; Nellie Helton Stanton (Roger), Gabbie Helton Pinion (Cole), Teddy, and Brawley Helton; and Noelle and Aurora McNally; as well as numerous extended family and many friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. The family would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the physicians who cared for her in her recent years, hospice staff at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice house in Salisbury for their compassion and care during her last days, and all the family and friends who showed such love and support throughout her journey.
