Celebration of Life María Luisa Arévalo de Camacho, lovingly known as "Luisa," age 82, of Mooresville, NC and formerly of New York City, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 31, 2025. Born on May 13, 1943, in Sopó, Colombia, she was the beloved daughter of the late Pedro Pablo and María Eloisa Arévalo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, María Eva and brothers Jose Misael and Pedro Pablo. A Life of Strength and Service Luisa was born and raised on a farm in the small town of Sopó, Colombia, where she learned the value of self-sufficiency-a principle that guided her entire life. As a single mother, she bravely immigrated to United States determined to create a life of opportunity for her daughter. Her work ethic was legendary, and her love language was acts of service. Whether quietly collecting dishes after a gathering or offering help before anyone asked, she gave of herself endlessly. She was a source of comfort and strength during difficult times. She was so fierce in her love for the family. Though small in stature-just four feet nine inches-Luisa was mighty in spirit. Her strength was both physical and spiritual. Once, she famously pulled a tree stump from the ground that even Calvin, six feet four inches tall, could not budge. Back in Colombia, she taught herself to sew to support her family. Her talent blossomed into a vocation, and she could bring any garment to life from just a sketch. One of her nieces affectionately called her "our Latina Vera Wang." Legacy of Love Luisa's greatest joy was her family. She will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the love she gave so freely. Una Vida de Fortaleza y Servicio Luisa nació y creció en una finca en el pequeño pueblo de Sopó, Colombia, donde aprendió el valor de la autosuficiencia-un principio que guió toda su vida. Como madre soltera, emigró valientemente a los Estados Unidos decidida a crear una vida de oportunidades para su hija. Su ética de trabajo era legendaria, y su lenguaje de amor eran los actos de servicio. Ya fuera recogiendo discretamente los platos después de una reunión o ofreciendo ayuda antes de que alguien la pidiera, se entregaba sin medida. Fue fuente de consuelo y fortaleza en tiempos difíciles. Amaba con una intensidad feroz a su familia. Aunque pequeña de estatura-tan solo cuatro pies y nueve pulgadas-Luisa era inmensa en espíritu. Una de sus sobrinas la llamaba con cariño "nuestra Vera Wang latina". Legado de Amor La mayor alegría de Luisa fue su familia. Se le recordará como una madre, abuela, hermana, tía y amiga devota. Su legado vive en las vidas que tocó y en el amor que dio tan generosamente.
