Maria Florence Cantasano, (71), of Tomahawk Dr. Mooresville, NC, (formerly of Bellmore NY) went to be with the Lord on December 16, 2025. Beloved Wife, Sister, Mother, Nonna, Aunt, Friend and Mentor. Maria passed in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her husband (Joseph Cantasano) of 50 years; children (Deanna Ewer/Jim Ewer) (Matthew Cantasano/Danielle Cantasano); grandchildren (John + Juliana Ewer and Vincent + Thomas Cantasano), and her lifelong friend, Deborah Celentano. Maria also had the blessings of visits from her brother, Tony Romeo/Mary Romeo) as well as an abundance of neighbors and friends who she thought of as family. Maria lived a life of service dedicated to helping others. She had a gift for bringing people together. Whether it be through her passion as a director of youth ministry at Notre Dame or as a Spiritual director in her community, she touched the lives of so many. You know if you got advice from Maria that you could trust it. She proudly received a master's degree in theology from St. John's University. If Maria was cooking, you would know where to find everyone! She put the same amount of love into making delicious feasts for her family as she did for hundreds of guests in her previous career owning a catering business with her friend Gloria Morch. Maria was always knitting a blanket, sweater or scarf for someone. She made sure you knew you were special to her. Maria's biggest joy in life was her grandchildren. She shared her wisdom with them but also her playfulness. She loved to read to them, tell stories from her past, and was always up for an adventure. People were drawn to Maria for her love of life, her ability to make kindness contagious, and loving with no limits. Maria was no doubt an angel on earth and now has her wings in heaven. She is missed dearly by anyone who knew her and will hold a special place in the hearts of many.
