Kenneth “Ken” Eugene Christy, 56, of Mooresville, NC, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019. He was born on September 20, 1962 in Mooresville, to Barbara Barrier Whitlow and the late Larry Eugene Christy. Ken was a 1980 graduate of Mooresville High School and a graduate of Catawba Valley Community College. He was employed with Windstream in Mooresville. Ken loved preserving nature and proudly supported the military. When describing Ken, these words come to mind: humble, caring, dependable, protective, spiritual, selfless, loyal, handsome, respectful, adventurous, big hearted, loving ... Ken adored Pam, whom he referred to as “my sweet wife” all the time, he even had that in his phone when she called him and that would pop up instead of her name! He loved traveling with Pam and exploring around the world with her as well as enjoying time with all their grandchildren - he loved being their “Papaw”. Ken was a Boy Scout leader for 18 years. He was passionate about nature as well as being a big hunter but enjoyed teaching others how to appreciate and take care of the beautiful outdoors. The outdoors was his place of peace & serenity and where he would talk to God a lot about many issues going on in his heart and head and knew that God listened to him. Ken’s family and friends meant the world to him, and he & Pam traveled many times with their friends to different destinations & will always have those memories to reflect back on. There are many family members he always talked about especially his favorite aunt Vickie Gaultney and his aunt Nancy Barrier and his sweet grandmother Irene Barrier who all taught him (life skills and family traditions) and lots of LOVE! His main goal was to carry out all those family traditions, teachings and Love that he had been taught by them and to keep the family together as best as he could. He lived his life to the fullest and had no regrets! He is survived by his wife, Pam Whitley Christy; children, Brandon Christy, Melissa Christy Filliben, Ben Christy; stepsons, Clark and Colby Benfield; brothers, Brian Christy, Ricky Whitlow; stepmom, Marilyn Christy Thomas; grandchildren, Jace, Brook, and Jacob Filliben, Luke Christy, Carsyn, Logan, Avery, and Easton Benfield; and the mother of his children, Anna Richards Christy-Ziecker. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 26 from 2:00-4:00 PM with a service following at 4:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Junior Johnson officiating.
