John "Johnny" Wayne Callahan, 83, of Mooresville, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born on March 26, 1933 in Wilkes County and was raised in Charlotte, where he lived until 1991 then moved to Mooresville where he passed away in his home after a courageous battle with cancer and under the care of hospice. Thanks for the wonderful care by the Critical Care team at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center especially Lori, Yang and Cathy. He served in the US Army 1953-1955, worked in upholstery field all of his life and worked with Kroehler manufacturing from date of discharge until retirement. He worked his way from the upholstery line to VP and Plant Manager in Charlotte. Johnny was a loving and devoted husband for 63 years to his wife Betty who cared for him during his illness with unfailing love and devotion. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing at Lake Norman and at his vacation home at the Outer Banks. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Statesville and was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lee and Ester Key Callahan; and brothers, Ronald, Roger, Larry and Bernie Callahan. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth S. Callahan; daughters, Debra C. Williams and husband, Latimer Williams IV, Phyllis Callahan; granddaughters, Dana Schloesser and Ashley Gordon; grandson, Patrick Gordon; great grandchildren, Ella Schloesser and Kai Gordon; brothers, Gerald Callahan and wife, Helen, Ralph Callahan and wife, Cordie; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 14 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Rev. Dan Freeman officiating. Burial with military honors will follow the service at 1:30 PM at Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:00-8:00 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
