We are sad to announce the passing of John Lee Bean of Charlotte, January 28, 2023. John was born July 18, 1948 to Claude and Lorena Bean. He was preceded in death by parents and brother, Phillip W. Bean and wife, Alda. John is survived by his wife of 51 years Monie Phillips Bean. They were High School sweethearts from rival schools, (Harding High School & West Mecklenburg). John is also survived by his sister, Claudia Shinn and husband Hal; sister-in-law Terri Seay (Kevin); niece, Hallie Long (Lance) and their children, Durant, Alec and Ward; nephew, Andy Shinn (Sheila) and their children, Nora Elizabeth and Camille Everly; nephew, Chip Bean (Becky); niece, Montiece Estes (Doug) and their children, Caitlin Drum (Kyle), Matthew Estes (Ashley), Jacob Estes; niece, Erin Thompson (Rodney) and their children, Garrison & Gibson. John was a 1966 graduate from Harding High School. He held an associate degree from Lees McRae and also was a member of Demostheneane Fraternity. He earned a BS degree in business from Appalachian State University in 1972. His career began with Owen & Paramount Construction in Banner Elk, North Carolina. After moving to Charlotte, he worked for Insite doing stone and granite, which included several large national jobs including Disney, Luxor and Lake Tahoe. John and partner Tim Shaffner formed Dimensional Concepts. After this John pursued his own company with water feature designs. His career was highlighted by his favorite fountain, which was the pineapple fountain in Charleston, SC. John was a Mason and Shriner. He was raised a Master Mason in 1988, part of Scottish Rite, and West Gate Masonic Lodge 738. He went on to become an Oasis Shriner. John loved supporting the Shriners. John served as Captain of Oasis Patrol. He served as potentate's aide for several years, was a member of the Metrolina Shrine Club.was a member of Oasis Hillbilly Clan #13, a member of Royal Order of Jesters Court 109. John was also a member of Charlotte area Shagger Hall of Fame and loved collecting various music. John cherished the wonderful friendships he made with Shriners and Shaggers. John and Monie enjoyed spending time at their mountain cabin in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Many special memories were created at this home. People who knew John would hear him say: Laugh often, laugh long and hard, laugh until you gasp for breath and if you have friends who make you laugh spend time with them. Be careful It's a Jungle Out There! A Celebration of Life, for John will be on February 8th at First Presbyterian Church 133 South Main Street, Mount Holly, NC 28120. The family will have a Gather & Greet prior to the service from 12:00PM to 1:00PM in the church Fellowship Hall. The Celebration of Life service will follow at 1:00PM. There will be a private graveside service conducted in Banner Elk, North Carolina.
