Irene Jane Zimmerman, 92, was called home to be with the Lord on February 9, 2024 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Irene was born on January 4, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio and was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Irene was a gift from God and always faithful to the Gospel. She dedicated her life to helping others, selflessly giving of herself without seeking recognition or applause. Irene was a devout Catholic and spent much of her time at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, where her faith was a source of strength and comfort. In addition to her religious devotion, Irene had a zest for life. She was known for her fun-loving and compassionate nature, as well as her quick wit and feisty spirit. Irene was always up for a good time and enjoyed spending time with her loved ones and friends. Irene was deeply involved in her community and was a cherished member of the Sardis Swim and Racquet Club. She served on the board of directors for many years and played a vital role in the club's growth and improvement. Irene was instrumental in supporting the swim, diving and tennis teams, and she was considered a mother figure to many at the club. After her children grew older and more independent, Irene embarked on a career at Tennis and Ski and later at Omega Sports, where she was affectionately known as the Omega Shoe Lady. Her dedication and expertise helped countless individuals find the perfect pair of shoes. Irene's kind and caring nature touched the lives of thousands of people throughout her career. In her free time, Irene enjoyed traveling to the beach, the Caribbean, and various destinations overseas. She loved exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Irene also had a passion for hobbies such as bridge, tennis, wreath and bow making, and cross-stitching. These activities brought her joy and allowed her to express her creativity. Irene is survived by her loving children Larry Zimmerman, Linda Patel and her husband Divya Patel, Kris Greene and her husband Hunt Greene, and Billy Zimmerman. She was a proud grandmother to Will and Matt Greene, Alan, Harry, and Anna Zimmerman. Irene also leaves behind her niece Debbie Speck and nephew Joe Kascanek. Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill Zimmerman and her sister Anne Kascanek as well as her parents George and Anna Klinchak. A Celebration of Life for Irene will be held on May 18, 2024 at Sardis Swim and Racquet Club at 7400 Thermal Road Charlotte, NC 28211 in the clubhouse adjacent to the pool from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Her family looks forward to seeing her friends and all those whose lives were touched by Irene and share in the remembrance of her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Irene's memory to Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church at 3016 Providence Road Charlotte, NC 28211. The family would like to thank the Preston House Senior memory care facility as well as VIA health partners formerly known as Hospice and Palliative Care of Charlotte, NC for their compassion, love and exceptional skills for care giving. Irene considered each and every one of them part of her family. Irene Jane Zimmerman will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
