Hazel Harrington Hatley, 90, of Terrell, passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at the Sherrills Ford Hospice House. Born March 27, 1928, in Stanly County, NC, she was a daughter of the late John Harrison and Jennie Holt Harrington. Mrs. Hatley worked for Mecklenburg County for 30 years. She was a member of Moore’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a devoted and loving mother who worked tirelessly raising four children as a single parent. She loved her family, children, the beach, birds, gardening, fishing, tomatoes, peaches and a cold beer, not necessarily in that order. Mrs. Hatley was kind and tender hearted was always willing to help those in need. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. She was deeply loved by her family and will be missed immensely. Her son, James Hatley, preceded Mrs. Hatley in death. She is survived by daughters, Cynthia Chastain (David), Lisa Goff (Bill) and Rebecca Hatley; and her dear friend, Rebecca Hill, whom she loved like a daughter; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jody) Fortson and their children, Owen, Jacob, and a baby girl due in October; Alison (Dwayne) Ogles and their children, Austyn and Olivia; Matthew Chastain, John (Jaclyn) Chastain, Lauren (Chris) Wilson; Karen Griffin and her daughter, Icyce Smith and Karla Griffin. A private graveside service will be held at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sherrills Ford Hospice House, 7473 Sherrills Ford Rd., Sherrills Ford, NC 28673.
