Gregg R. Orth went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2026. He was the beloved son of the late Robert T. Orth and Dixie Gregg Orth of Chicago, Illinois. Gregg married his one true love, Judith Lynn Orth, just sixty days after meeting her on a blind date nearly sixty years ago. Their marriage was rooted in faith, love, and a shared devotion to the Lord. Captain Gregg R. Orth served his country with courage and distinction as an Army Ranger during the Vietnam War. His military honors include the Silver Star for gallantry in action, the Bronze Star with "V" for valor, the Soldier's Medal for heroism, 2 Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Medal for more than 25 aerial missions, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was also the recipient of the Quilt of Valor, nominated by the Riverine Assault Force for his leadership during the Tet Offensive, where his actions were recorded in the Congressional Record. Gregg was also an accomplished athlete. He played college football at Indiana University and the University of Michigan and later played professionally for the Chicago Bears. After football and military service, Gregg built a successful career in business that took him across the country and around the world. But Gregg measured his life differently than most. His greatest accomplishment was always his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Judith Lynn, his daughters TorryLynn Revels (John) of Hays, North Carolina and Christen Orth Johnson (Roger) of Mooresville, North Carolina, and his grandson Brady, a student at Auburn University. For more than thirty years, Lake Norman and Spinnaker Bay were a place where Gregg enjoyed sharing lake life with family and friends. In recent years, Gregg and Judy made their home with their daughter and son-in-law in Mooresville, NC, where he spent his final season surrounded by family. A celebration of life will be held on April 29th their 59th wedding anniversary at 90 Novanta 120 Langtree Village Dr #102, Mooresville, NC 28117 (Exit 31 off I-77) beginning at 6:00 pm, officiated by Chaplain Tony Parker. Gregg laid down his earthly sword and picked up his cross to walk with Jesus. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
