Everette Canterbury, Jr, 57, of West Virginia and more recently from Mooresville, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Everette loved the outdoors and all related activities including hunting, fishing, camping and horseback riding. Everette worked in the energy and coal sectors in Texas and Colorado where he took advantage of exploring and enjoying the great outdoors in both locations. An avid racing fan, Everette made Mooresville his home where he loved spending time with his family and making new and special friends. Everette touched many lives with his free spirit and enjoyed talking to any and every one. Some of his favorite pastimes were visiting CynTucci’s Bakery for an afternoon treat and being a regular at 202 North Main’s Thursday evening wine tastings. He was a committed volunteered at the Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission where he enjoyed helping others in his community. Everette was a chivalrous, generous and a selfless friend who would do anything needed; never asking for anything in return. He was fun and easy to be around with a great, albeit dry sense of humor who never complained about anything. One friend described Everette’s personality saying he was like an "old shoe" that wore well with everyone! Many enjoyed his stories about living out West and the life and adventures he had out there. Everette was a kind and gentle soul who could be a true and lasting friend and his passing has come as a shock to all who loved and knew him. It is with deepest regret that we now have to say goodbye to our brother and dear friend even though we know he has a very special place prepared for him in Heaven. Everette's sweet nature, endless generosity and warm smile will be greatly missed. Everette is preceded in death by his father, Everette Canterbury and mother, Betty Lou King Canterbury. He is survived by his sister, Rita Edwards, nephew, Michael Edwards, great nephew, Otto Edwards, sister, Kim Atkins and husband, Miles, niece and nephew, Rett and Liam Atkins. A Celebration of Life for Everette will be held from 5 – 7 PM on Friday, May 15, 2015, at the Heritage House at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mooresville-Lake Norman Christian Mission, 266 N. Broad St., Mooresville, NC 28115. A monetary or non-perishable donation may also be brought to the Celebration.
