Dorothy Wrenn Bolmer Richards was born on April 27, 1917, to Maude Wrenn Hanner and Joseph Calhoun Hanner. Dot lived a long, full life until November 29, 2015. In 1947, Dot and her husband, Grant Bolmer, moved to Mooresville for Grant to practice law. After Grant’s death in 1965, Dot moved to Raleigh and later married Lyndon Richards. After returning to Mooresville in 1976, she spent the remainder of her life enjoying children and grandchildren in Mooresville and Blowing Rock. Dot was a quiet, dignified lady who loved her family, her home, and simple activities. At Prospect Presbyterian Church, even in her eighties and nineties, she tried to go to every activity with the "Golden Prospectors." Almost never did she miss a weekly Bridge game at the Charles Mack Center. Cooking was one of Dot’s passions, and stories about "new recipes" are prolific. During a writing class in 1986, Dot wrote a "Grandmother’s Book." A quote is "Perhaps someday when you are a grandparent, you will write a book like this for your own grandchildren who will be as dear to you as you are to me." In her "Grandmother’s Book", Dot described her memories of the depression, World War II, the inventions of penicillin, dial telephones, radios, refrigerators, the atom being smashed, and her first television in 1948. Dot’s survivors include a son, Grant William "Bill" Bolmer, Jr. and his wife, Mary; daughters, Pam Bolmer Beaver and her husband, Richard; Barbara "Barbie" Bolmer Whitener and her husband, Chris; grandchildren, Chuck Bolmer and his wife, Sheelah; Jon Bolmer and his wife, Amy; Allen "Sonny" Robertson and his wife, Sharon; Rodney Beaver and his wife, Adriana; Annie Wrenn Beaver Heglar and her husband, Dwayne; Heather Whitener and her partner, Roberto Hernandez; Megan Whitener Tarbox and her husband, Joe; Anna Whitener and her partner, Brian Cardone; great grandchildren, Nicholas Heglar and his wife, Joanna; Mackenzie Heglar; Ryan Grayce and his wife, Haley; Chance Bolmer; Isabelle Bolmer; Nolan Beaver; Anna Leigh Beaver; Madison Beaver; Teshia Vickery and her husband, Jonathan; Garrett Robertson; Tyler Robertson; Luke Bolmer; Lane Bolmer; Katie Bolmer; great great grandchildren, Riley and Harrison Vickery. Special relatives are Dot’s aunt, Ann Wrenn and cousins, Tracy and Nancy Ann Starcher and their family and Dr. Sim and Mrs. Anna Wrenn and their family. Dot had great friends at Prospect Presbyterian Church and the senior citizen center. Dot loved all visits, meals, walks, and occasions with her family. Historically, Dot was a leader in the Mooresville Garden Club during the 1950s and ahead by decades in loving perennial flowers and organic foods. She spent countless hours researching genealogy to share with her family. As a very quiet, kind lady, she was always a "Southern Belle" and a gentle soul who was much loved and will be missed by all. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 2 at Prospect Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
