Kay Sharpe Draughn, 71, of Mooresville, was called to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 7, 2019. She was born January 29, 1948, in Mooresville, NC. Kay was a graduate of Newton-Conover High School, Iredell Memorial School of Radiologic Technology, and Central Piedmont Community College. Kay was employed many years as an x-ray technician, instructor, department head, and for many years at First Union Bank/Wells Fargo as a systems analyst and vice-president. Kay was always proud of her accomplishments as a team leader with the "Y2K" project. Although Kay and Bill were married 48 years, they did not have any children of their own. God gave them the UMYF kids at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Mooresville. Later on in retirement Kay enjoyed her role as a preacher's spouse and spent much time with her hobbies of woodworking, researching ancestry, and making jewelry. Kay was a loving person who easily made friends and led persons to faith in Jesus. She endured much suffering and pain in her later years and became unable to attend church. She took much pride and joy being a member of Rocky Mount UMC. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Christie Sharpe and William Thomas Sharpe of Statesville, NC, and her sister, Tommie Nell Rothman. Kay was a loving wife survived by her husband and part-time caretaker, Bill Draughn. Kay is also survived by her sister-in-law, Wanda Draughn of Belmont, NC, brother-in-law, David Rothman, of Alexandria, VA, a niece, Lisa DiCiaccio of Gastonia, NC, nephews James Shore of Advance, NC, and Tim Shore of Mint Hill, NC. Special thanks goes to all her wonderful angel caregivers, to include Debbie, Barbara, Padma, Robbin, Mary Beth, Pauline, Kate and many others. Kay was surrounded by love from her church family and pastors and was gracefully ushered into Heaven by the good folks at Gordon Hospice House. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 11 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Jamie Hamrick officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
