Cathy Denise McCall Lackey, age 72, of Leaverworth, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. Born on December 9, 1952, in Statesville, North Carolina, Cathy was the beloved daughter of Marjorie Sue and Clarence E. McCall Sr. She was lovingly raised by her stepmother, Van Meter Reid McCall, and was the fifth of eight children. Cathy's life was marked by her deep love for her childhood sweetheart, Michael Bruce Lackey Sr., whom she married on January 5, 1970. Together, they shared a beautiful life and raised three children, Michael Bruce Jr., Ronald Preston, and Frenchy Denise. In 1980, Cathy and Michael moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where they cultivated a warm and welcoming home for their family for the past 45 years. A devoted member of the Independent Missionary Baptist Church, Cathy contributed to her community by leading the choir, prayer, and missionary ministries. Known affectionately as "Sister Collard Green," she brought joy and laughter to all who knew her with her comedic spirit. Cathy cherished her roles as a friend, leader, activist, advocate, aunt, mother, and grandmother. Above all, she proudly embraced her role as a devoted wife, having recently celebrated 55 years of marriage to Michael. Her family was her heartbeat, and she was the glue that held them together through all of life's challenges. Cathy was a woman of faith, often reminding others that "Jesus is on the main line". Cathy is preceded in death by her eldest son, Michael Bruce Lackey Jr., her brothers, Harvey Lee Stevenson, Clarence McCall Jr., and Frank McCall, and her parents, Clarence and Marjorie McCall, and Van Meter McCall. She is survived by her loving husband, Michael Bruce Lackey Sr.; her children, Ronald (Kim) Lackey and Frenchy (Jason) Flowers; her cherished grandchildren, Madison, Mahkala, Michal, and Major Lackey, her siblings, Ronald McCall, Christopher (Candy) McCall, Lisa McCall, and Hope (Christopher) Green; her niece, Danette (Chad) Glover; and many other family members and loved ones. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the First Church, 464 Garfield Street, Statesville, NC. The funeral service will commence at 1:00 PM at the church, followed by the burial at Belmont Cemetery in Statesville, NC. The family will be served at the Civic Center in Statesville, NC. Cathy will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home and Crematory, Mooresville is serving the Lackey family.
