Carolann Covert - A Life of Love, Dedication, and Impact Carolann Covert, 66, Davidson, NC, wasn't just a person; she was a force. A woman with a heart that was as strong as it was soft, she shaped lives with every interaction, forever touching those who were fortunate enough to truly know her. Described by many as an "M&M"-hard on the outside but soft on the inside-Carol was selective about who she let in, but once you were in, you were family, and she would go to any length to support you. Carol's own childhood was difficult, and it was those early experiences that motivated her to ensure no child she encountered would ever feel the same way. Her life's work became a mission to lift up children, to empower them, and to create a space where they felt valued and seen. After raising her daughters, Salina and Samantha, to school age, Carol took on a new challenge-returning to school herself. While balancing the roles of mother, homemaker, and supporter of her husband's business, Carol enrolled at Georgian Court University. With her characteristic determination, she graduated with a 4.0 GPA, a testament to her resilience and passion. Her education was not just a personal achievement but a way to create a brighter future for her daughters. Carol pursued her passion for education and began teaching Special Education in Middletown, NJ, where she thrived. Middletown wasn't just a job for her-it was a home filled with colleagues she cherished and students who adored her. She'd come home filled with stories of triumph, joy, and laughter from her days at New Monmouth and Bayview School. Carol was an advocate and an inspiration, empowering students and families alike. Over her career, she touched the lives of thousands of children, making an indelible mark on the Middletown School District. Even while teaching, Carol never stopped learning. She earned her Master's in Education from Nova Southeastern University, all while raising her two daughters and managing the household. She was the embodiment of what it meant to be a strong, caring, and driven woman. In 2016, Carol retired early, calling it her "get out of jail free card." She relocated to North Carolina, where she fully embraced her favorite role of all-being a grandmother. Carol poured her love, time, and energy into her grandchildren, Charley, Tripp, Lukas, Remi, and Dominik. To them, she wasn't just "Mamma"-she was their best friend, their confidante, and their greatest cheerleader. Every moment with them was a moment of joy, love, and laughter. Despite her retirement, Carol couldn't stay away from her calling. In 2019, she returned to the classroom at Rocky Mount Preschool, eager to continue shaping young minds. Though deemed "overqualified" for the position, Carol didn't care. Her heart belonged to the classroom, and she answered God's call to be with her students. At Rocky Mount, Carol found joy in loving and teaching "her babies," spreading kindness, and sharing the Lord's love with every lesson. Though Carol's journey on earth ended abruptly, her mission was complete. No child who crossed her path-from her daughters, Salina and Samantha, to her students in Middletown, to her beloved grandchildren, and her little ones at Rocky Mount-would ever feel the way she did as a child. Carol gave them love, strength, and the confidence to be themselves. Carolann Covert was a gift from God, sent to uplift His children. A celebration of her life, especially for children, will be held at Rocky Mount Church in Mooresville on September 28th at 2 p.m. All children are welcome. A reception for immediate family and out-of-town guests will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Mount Preschool, Mooresville, c/o Stephanie Hocking.
