September 17, 1943 - January 30, 2021
Golf, the legendary Bobby Jones once said, is the closest game to the game we call life. Tom Edwards played both well. Edwards died from COVID-19 complications on January 30, 2021 in Concord, the town where he was born 77 years earlier. Tom graduated from Concord High School in 1963 and attended the United Electronics Institute in Louisville KY. He was a connector of and with people - professionally during a long career at Bellsouth and socially as a friend to all he met. Quick with a bad joke and a heartfelt laugh, he charmed everyone he knew, and sometimes it seemed as if he knew everyone. Until his final days, he was a kid at heart. Whether riding go-carts or golf carts with grandkids; playing video games or solving silly puzzles, tinkering with toy radios or repairing complicated electronics, he always had fun. He was a charter member of the American Singles Golf Association, Charles T. Myers and Skybrook Golf Clubs; a North Carolina Senior Games champion and a skilled shagger who could twist and twirl with the best. Tom loved fun and he loved life, but there was nothing he loved more than his four children, ten grandchildren, great-granddaughter and other family members. Family was the most important thing in the world. He is survived by his loving partner in life and on the links, BJ Caldwell; former wife Sally Edwards, mother of son Thomas “TJ” Edwards Jr.; daughters Jennifer; Julie Selby-Mace and Tammie Keefe, and their spouses and children. Other survivors include sisters Lynda Hoover, Donna Oakley, and brother Frank Duckworth. A private family Memorial Mass will be held at 1 PM on Friday, February 12 at St. Luke Catholic Church, followed by a virtual Celebration of Life from 7 pm – 9 pm.
