Sylvia Anne Helms

October 6, 1935 - January 28, 2022

Sylvia Anne Whitley Craft Helms passed away January 28, 2022. Sylvia was born in Mecklenberg County, NC on October 6, 1935, the eldest daughter of Roy Allen and Ruth Elizabeth Whitley. After graduating from Central High School in 1953, Sylvia married Paul E. Craft, Jr. in 1954 and they moved to California. Sylvia graduated from Cal State Northridge in 1978, retired from H&R Block in 1997 and then she and Paul moved back to North Carolina. Paul passed away in 2001. Sylvia was married to Samuel Helms from 2003 until he passed in 2009. Sylvia is survived by her daughters, Beverly Holmes (James), Beth Selmser (Dan), grandchildren Taryn Gandalfo (Keith), Stefanie Lewis (Andrew), Desirae Khampanya (TK), Paul Jared Craft, Eric Selmser (Melody), Rachel Ruhle (Chris), Kellie Rainey (Carl), Chris Holmes (Emily), Tim Holmes (Renee), Ben Holmes (Becca), 18 great grandchildren, brother Roy Allen Whitley Jr., sister Carolyn Thomasson (James), and sister-in-law Shirley DeRossett. Sylvia loved to travel, read, sew and watch her hummingbirds. She was an accomplished pianist, serving her beloved Grace Covenant Church as Sunday School pianist for many years. Cavin-Cook is serving the family. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 494 East Plaza Drive, Mooresville, NC with visitation at 1:00 pm and service at 2:00 pm.
