September 11, 1949 - April 13, 2021
On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Christy Spencer Schwartzott passed away at the age of 71. She had been struggling with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother James and sister Suzanne. She is survived by Paul and two beautiful children, Brett (wife Audrey Tom and son Cooper) of Carbondale, CO and Heather (husband Whitney Brown and children Morgan, Peyton and Carson) of Concord, NC. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Christy was born on September 11, 1949 in Buffalo, NY to James and Glendine Spencer. She grew up in Kenmore and Clarence, NY and attended Buffalo State College. She worked with special needs children in Aurora, CO and Simsbury, CT. On February 8, 1969, the beautiful blonde haired, blue eyed Christy met Paul Schwartzott. It was truly love at first sight. They were inseparable from that day forward. They were engaged within 4 months and married on August 22, 1970. Throughout their 50 years of marriage, they began and ended each day with a kiss. From very humble backgrounds, they were incredibly privileged to have lived their dreams in Buffalo, NY; Danbury, CT; Aurora, CO; Breckenridge, CO; Simsbury, CT; Marco Island, FL; Glastonbury, CT (the antique house with resident ghosts); Lake Norman, NC; Sanibel, FL; Grants Mountain, NC; and Ft. Myers, FL. Christy lived on Lake Norman when she passed. Christy retired from education in 1994, and focused on her natural ability of making people feel special. She was a selfless and very humble person. She was caring, sensitive, warm, thoughtful, and generous (never forgetting to send family and friends cards for every occasion). She could laugh loudly at a joke and cry over an ad on TV. She was just fun to be around! Christy was very well read and passionate about her views on world topics, including Women's Rights. She would eagerly engage in conversation regarding topics she cared about. She was also a meticulous planner. She was a caregiver for her mother until she passed at almost 101. She loved, loved, loved her Golden Retriever's. Always 2 at a time in the house and sometimes 3. She leaves behind her beloved Gulliver (rescue from Istanbul, Turkey) and Spencer. She loved traveling. She and Paul traveled the world together, many times with family and special friends. Not surprisingly, much of that travel involved beautiful vineyards. She excelled at April fool jokes, surprise birthday parties and unique and meaningful Christmas gifts (including many hilarious gag gifts). Most of all she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She left 3 passages behind that helped her focus on being a positive person during some very difficult days: "Sometimes you will never know the value of a moment, until it becomes a memory"; "Today I shall behave, as if this is the day I will be remembered" and "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened". Private memorial services will be held at Lake Norman, NC; Buffalo, NY; Sanibel, FL and Carbondale, CO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Christy to: Adopt a Golden Atlanta, PO Box 420256, Atlanta, GA 30342-9998 or online at www.adoptagoldenatlanta.com.
