    Alan Ivan Slonim

    January 13, 1932 - June 6, 2022

Alan Slonim, 90, of Terrell, NC died at home in his sleep from a heart attack on Monday, June 6, 2022. We are grateful he was able to be active and live independently through the end. Alan grew up in Brooklyn, NY and New Rochelle, NY. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ohio State University where he met his wife Renee. Alan and Renee were married for 58 years until her death in 2012. Alan served in the military before becoming an engineer in the aerospace industry. After his retirement in 1991, Alan and Renee moved full time to Lake Norman where every day was a vacation. After Renee's death, Alan began dating and then lived with Lynn Karp. More important than his work was his family. Alan and Renee made our large extended family a priority and always made time for family and friends. Alan enjoyed travelling across the country for family events and looked forward to the lively discussions on the family Zoom calls these past 2 years. Alan was preceded in death by his sisters Charna Weisman and Dee Cline, and his beloved wife of 58 years, Renee. Alan is survived by Lynn Karp; his children Linda Lauer (Mike) and Mark (Lisa); and his grandchildren, Matthew Lauer, and April, Bennett, and Carter Slonim. He did not wish to have a funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations in Alan's memory can be made at wdav.org or templekoltikvah.org. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Slonim family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
