William "Bill" Hazel Gibson

William H. “Bill” Gibson, 85, of South Magnolia St., Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville.
Born September 7, 1926, in Charlotte, N.C., he was a son of the late C. C. and Bess Carpenter Gibson. Mr. Gibson was co-founder, with his brother, Van Gibson, of Gibson Brothers Furniture. He was a WWII veteran having served in the US Navy in the Pacific. Mr. Gibson was a dedicated member of Central United Methodist Church, Mooresville, since 1952. He was active in the Mooresville Lions Club for 20 years. An avid private pilot for over 40 years, Mr. Gibson also enjoyed boating. One of the joys of his life was serving as a local pastor at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Lenoir, N.C. for eight years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Betty Widenhouse Gibson, and two brothers, Van Gibson and Claude Gibson.
Mr. Gibson is survived by his sons, Richard Carlton Gibson and wife, Dee of Mooresville, and Billy Gibson and wife, Krista of Greer, S.C.; brother, Howard Gibson of Burlington; grandsons, Taylor and Connor; nephews, Robert Gibson and wife, Elizabeth of Mooresville, Tim Gibson of Concord, Alex Haggerty and wife, Dorethe of V.A., and Dan Gibson of Dallas, T.X.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, January 15, at Central United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park in Concord. The family will receive friends from 1:30–3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
