Stephen "Boomie" Thomas Kennedy

Stephen “Boomie” Thomas Kennedy, 63, of Bluffton, SC, formerly of Mt. Ulla, NC, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at his residence. Born August 25, 1948, in Mooresville, NC, he was a son of the late Mack W. and Irene Belk Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy was a 1966 graduate of West Rowan High School. He attended CPCC and graduated from UNC-Charlotte with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was currently employed as a Civil Engineer. Mr. Kennedy was an avid golfer, and loved his family. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Mt. Ulla, NC. Mr. Kennedy is survived by his longtime loving companion, Joanne Teeter; children, Laura Plyler, of Hendersonville, NC, Elizabeth Kennedy, Matthew P. Kennedy and Stephanie Kennedy, all of Charlotte, NC; brothers, Jon Kennedy and wife, Carla, of Mooresville, NC, and W. David “Goober” Kennedy, of Mt. Ulla, NC; sisters, Alise “Sister” K. Howard, of Columbia, SC, Diane “Dee Dee” K. Carr and husband, James, of Flower Mound, TX, and Kathy “Booty” K. Rogers and husband, Kenny, of Mooresville, NC; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, September 10, 2011, at Centenary United Methodist Church, Mt. Ulla, NC, with Rev. Michael Swofford officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM, Friday, September 9, 2011, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Kennedy.
