Robert John Monahan

July 20, 1944 - February 20, 2012

Robert John Monahan, 67, of Mooresville, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem of complications from acute leukemia. Born July 20, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a son of the late Harold and Florence Howard Monahan. From childhood Bob loved the ocean and being on the water. Living on Lake Norman for the past decade with his best friend and loving wife, Gloria, gave him pleasure every day. After retirement from J.M. Huber Corporation, he earned a Captain's license and boating again became a great pastime. Bob was an incredibly loving father and grandfather, and a father figure to many. Family was always his greatest joy. His family could imagine no better husband, father, and grandfather. He was full of pride and love for his wife, children, and grandchildren, who will always be grateful for everything he taught them. Mr. Monahan is survived by his wife, Gloria Crecco Monahan; children, Bob Monahan and wife, Joo Chung, of Arlington, VA, Jeffrey Monahan and wife, Anna Simms, of Floyd, VA, Nancy Berdeen and husband, Clint, of Pleasant Garden, NC, Andrew Monahan and wife, Lucy Zhou, of Hong Kong; sisters, Joan Esposito and Lois Burns; grandchildren, Brooks, Lucy, Isaac, Zadie and Sally; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harold Monahan, Jr. and Jack Monahan. The family will receive friends at St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville at 10AM, Friday, February 24, 2012, followed by Memorial Mass at 11AM. A reception will follow at the family home. Memorials may be made to the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation.
