Robert "Bob" Albert Thompson

October 3, 1927 - December 31, 2011

Robert “Bob” Albert Thompson, 84, of Harris Point Rd., Salisbury, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House, Statesville. Born October 3, 1927, in Salisbury, NC, he was the son of the late Arthur and Connie Dellinger Thompson. Mr. Thompson was retired from Southern Bell/AT&T. He was a WWII veteran having served in the US Army. Mr. Thompson was a volunteer fireman with Statesville Road Fire Department. He was a longtime member of Trading Ford Baptist Church, Salisbury. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by first wife of 28 years, Elizabeth Pepper Blackmon; and sons, Terry Wayne Thompson and Robert Albert Thompson, Jr. He is survived by daughters, Jodie Strider and husband, Michael, of Davidson, Rickie McAuley and husband, Richard, of Huntersville, Wanda Williams and husband, Bobby, of Mooresville, Trena Thompson, of Chicago, IL, and Arlica Baker and husband, Jimmy; and Bob’s previous wife, Lynn Collins, all of Winston-Salem; sister, Marjorie “Margie” Hulsey, of Braselton, GA; 11 Grandchildren; 15 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
