Richard Z. Rozner

December 7, 1922 - January 25, 2012

Richard Z. Rozner (USAF MAJ. RET) died January 25, 2012, in Mooresville, NC. He was born December 7, 1922, in Astoria, Long Island, NY, to the late Eugene and Pauline Rozner. After High School, he entered the Aviation Cadet Program of the US Army Air Corps and graduated from Pilot Training in May 1944. During WWII, he was assigned to the 466th Bomb Group – 8th AF in England flying 25 missions in B-24 bombers to targets over Germany such as Berlin, Magdeburg, Regensburg, Essen and Munster. After WWII, he was assigned to the Pacific at Hickam AFB in Hawaii. He flew C-54s to many Pacific Islands such as Johnson, Kwajalein, Eniwetok, Wake, Guam, Midway, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. During the Korean War, he flew air evacuation bringing the wounded home. He logged over 9,000 hours flying time during his 24 year Air Force career. After his Air Force career, he worked at McDonnell-Douglas in Long Beach, CA, in 1975, Richard and Camilla moved to their dream home on Lake Norman in Denver, NC, where they spent their remaining years together. He will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with his wife of 51 years, Camilla. He is survived by his son, Ron Rozner, of Denver, NC, and daughter, Carole Leavelle, of Newport Beach, CA. Mr. Rozner had four grandchildren, Richie and Bobby Rozner, of Huntersville, NC, and Andy and Katie Leavelle, of Huntington Beach, CA; sister-in-law, Helen Christie, of Mooresville, NC, and Jo Duckworth and husband, Chester Duckworth, of Williamsburg, VA; and nieces, Wanda Stutts and husband, Larry Stutts, of Mooresville, NC, and Saundra Rogers, of Mooresville, NC. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, January 30, 2012, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mr. Rozner.
