John Douglas Sykes

John Douglas Sykes, 77, of Mooresville, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at the Serenity House in Mooresville.
He was born on August 31, 1934 in Apex, to the late Milton and Oma Hurst Sykes. He was a retired credit manager. He was also a member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville, where he was a member of the XYZ Choir and formerly a deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Smith Sykes; brothers, Milton Sykes, Billy Sykes; and sister, Pauline Sykes.
He is survived by his children, John D. Sykes, Jr. and wife, Cathy of Ooltewah, TN, Sandra Campbell of Statesville, Laura O’Connor and husband, Michael of Statesville; sisters, Mildred White of Durham, Dorothy Wood of Fuquay Varina, Hollis Powell of Angier; brothers, Otis Sykes of Raleigh, Roy Sykes of Fuquay Varina; grandchildren, John D. Sykes III, Meghan S. Scogins and husband, Stewart, Justin Bustle, Emily Campbell, Amy Busque and husband, P.J., J.W. Blackwelder and wife, Aimee; great grandchildren, Jason Blackwelder, Seth Blackwelder, Izaak Blackwelder, Meredith Busque, Madison Busque, and Koltn Speece.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 1 at First Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Jerry Cloninger officiating. Burial will follow the service in Glenwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:30-8:30 PM at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
