Obituary
Carl "Bud" Linn
November 2, 1923 - November 8, 2011
Carl “Bud” Linn, 88, of Mooresville, NC, went home on Tuesday, November 8, 2011.
He was born on November 2, 1923 in Bridgeport, WV, to the late Louis Burt and Clara Ashburn Linn. He was a WWII veteran serving in the US Army Air Corp, where he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and flew over 30 missions over the South Pacific. In Celebration of his 80th birthday, he was given the opportunity to take a flight on board the last flying B-29. He traveled from Winston-Salem, NC to Martinsburg, WV in the bombardier’s seat (nose of the plane) and proudly boasted that he was the first one to land. A comment very typical of his great sense of humor. He was a very devoted father to his children and a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren. He always wanted to make people happy and always put his family first. He had a deep concern for all his friends and was a Christian man who took his children to church instead of sending them and taught them to put God first and respect the house of God. He loved to eat ramps and T&L Hotdogs. Mr. Linn was a member of the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason Herman Lodge #6, where he received the 50 year pin in Clarksburg, WV. He was also a member of the Shriners and Lions Club. Mr. Linn was retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company, Hercules Powder, and United Hospital Center. He was a long-time member and deacon of Nutter Fort Baptist Church in Nutter Fort, WV, where he sang bass in a quartet and the church choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother.
He is survived by his children, Clancy Linn and wife, Beth, Lonnie Linn and wife, Wilma, Crystal Hewitt and husband, Bruce; grandchildren, Tina Linn, Aaron Linn, Becky Linn, Jeff Bland, Kristine Marks, Christie Sparks Shook, D.J. Sparks, Aimee Hewitt, Earl Hewitt, Jill Hewitt; great grandchildren, Ashley Linn, Savannah Linn, Phoenix Mooney, Destiny Linn, Gabriella Linn, Shea Marks, Kylie Marks, Mariah Ferrer, Hailey Shook, T.J. Sparks, Cameron Hewitt, Cassidy Hewitt.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 12 at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Young officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Bridgeport, WV.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Chapter #331 Order of Eastern Star, 144 E. Memorial Hwy, Harmony, NC 28634.
