Amanda Bowers Barker

Amanda Bowers Barker, 85, of Wetmore Rd., Woodleaf, passed away on Friday, September 9, 2011, at Gordon Hospice House, Statesville. Born May 23, 1926, in Bryson City, NC, she was a daughter of the late William F. and Katie Cloer Bowers. Mrs. Barker was a retired cutter from Draymore Mfg. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Barker was preceded in death by her husband, Fred William Barker; grandson, David Lee Reavis; and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Lon William Barker and wife, Sidney, of Mooresville, Janice Iretha Benfield and husband, Tay, of Denver, and Anita Barker Reavis and husband, Randy, of Woodleaf; brother, Walter Bowers, of Bryson City; grandchildren, Ralph White, Lee Anne Starnes, Mark Benfield, Lon Barker, Jr. , and Mathew Reavis; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, September 12, 2011, at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM, Sunday, September 11, 2011, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.
